Using two displays on a PC (Thanks to Cliff Speight who supplied the following after many hours of testing)
Most modern laptops can operate with
dual monitors, and usually there is a key combination to quickly switch
between screens. On my Toshiba Satellite it is Function Key + F5, and I have
seen Function Key + F10 used on Dell and Fujitsu machines. Check in the
handbook to be sure. There is usually a choice of displaying on laptop only,
second monitor only, or on both.
1).Connect the second monitor to the
laptop, and power on both.
2).Set up the laptop using the key
combinations above so that it is displaying only on the laptop screen.
3).Right click on Windows desktop and
select Properties, and then the settings tab.
4).You should now see representations of
two screens, marked 1 to the left and 2 to the right, with the one marked 2
greyed out. Click on the one marked 2 and you can now alter the settings for
the second monitor. If in any doubt click on identify button and it will show
which monitor is which by putting up a number on each screen.
5). Change the settings for monitor 2:
Select screen resolution to 800 x 600, and tick the box "Extend my desktop
onto this monitor". The other tick box should be unticked. Click on Apply
button and the second monitor should spring into life. Click OK to exit.
6). Set up the display program to
display results locally, then drag the window to the right and onto the second
monitor.
7). If you can't find the mouse pointer
remember it could be on the other screen (and probably out of your sight!),
which is to the right of the desktop, so the first thing to try is to scroll
it to your left to bring it into view.
Note: please ensure you use the latest versions of both the Slalom Event Organiser for Windows and the Display Slalom Results programs, Tony A |
